I had a very audible reaction when I saw this situation while spring cleaning yesterday.

There was swearing and panic!

Now that the initial disgust has been managed, it is interesting to see how the grate pattern changes depending on where the voids appear to be.

I prefer it clean.

Time to order a new HVAC filter!
