We went to see Ben Folds tonight at Red Hat Amphitheatre, and it was an amazing, splashy, ivory tinkly sing along. One really fun thing about the angle we were at, and because he was wearing a skinny suit, is that his upper body and his lower body looked like they were being operated by different muppeteers.
This is my third time seeing seeing Ben Folds. The first time was when he was still part of Ben Folds Five; he played opposite Beck at Darien Lake. The second time was him with the Pittsburgh Symphony, which was amazing. This was a mix of both those. He directed audience participation, and smashed the piano, while taking breaks to audience talk.
While the side of the piano of course said “Yamaha” I kept seeing “Panera”.
