“Mama,” Henry said, “I want to paint my nails.”
He picked out a color, and got settled at the table. I started painting and he said in his quietest voice, almost to himself, “blue is my favorite color. Why do people say boys don’t wear nail polish and it’s just for girls?”
I wasn’t sure he was talking to me, but I replied anyway, “boys can wear nail polish. It’s a nice way to wear your favorite color and it is fun, isn’t it?”
“It is, mama. I like it.”
I’m proud of him.
