Every year we go to Wasaga Beach in Ontario, and it’s my favorite vacation. I sit outside, read books, and don’t worry about the kids drowning (it’s very shallow and they’re all very good swimmers).
This year I read 8 books, and we were there 8 days. So I feel good about that — I set a goal for a book a day, and while I did cheat a little bit with starting before I got to the beach, and finishing after I left the beach, I really don’t care that much. I usually average 1-2 books a week on my kindle (I’ve read 58 books so far this year on my kindle), so getting to pack in nearly 7 times as much reading felt great!
- These Summer Storms by Sarah MacLean (started before vacation on my phone, and finished it the first day)
- The Secret of Chimneys by Agatha Christie (I’ve read this one before, but I’ve picked up some physical copies of Christie lately)
- The Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel
- The Tenant by Frieda McFadden
- Every Summer After by Carley Fortune
- The Woman in Suite 11 by Ruth Ware
- How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin
- The Butcher by Jennifer Hillier (finished it the day after vacation, borrowed from my sister-in-law)

I let my watch die on the first day, took it off, and put it in my bookbag. Then I left my phone next to the bed on the charger, and barely had it on me. It was glorious. A note on the photos below – we vacation with Bob’s sister’s family and Bob’s parents every year here. So our nephew John is in some of the photos – we didn’t sprout an extra child. He’s the same age as the twins, so I call them the triplets, and when their other cousin (Bob’s other sister’s oldest son) is with them, I call them the quads, because he is also the same age.
