Crayon Strike and Book Children

I saw that some people looked at this post today: https://wp.me/p2kj51-l9

And it made me realize that even before Grant got obsessed with Oliver Jeffers (we have many of his books, including a few that are pretty existential), we returned to his stories again and again.

No real point to this post, I suppose! Just that after many nights of reading Wings of Fire and/or Last Kids on Earth, the past two nights Grant has chosen to read to me, and he’s picked Once Upon An Alphabet and A Child of Books respectively. He seems to love the ones that aren’t quite pat. Though we also adore the Boy and the Penguin, and of course Lost and Found is a dear friend.

Grant is a questioner at heart, and I think that’s why these stories resonate with him. They invite questions. We can make them our own each and every time we read. And the added bonus is that he’s gotten pretty good at reading cursive. Or at least Oliver Jeffers’ cursive, which is pretty good itself.

One of the ones that generates a lot of already-gotten-under-the-covers-whispering is Meanwhile, Back on Earth. It’s so fun, and gives us a chance to talk about how things aren’t always so great, even though that’s the way we want to remember them. And also talk about space and distances!
